Winter ‘Beer Hunt’ Offered in Eastern Oregon
Haines, Oregon…Hand-crafted beers are becoming a staple in daily life for residents and visitors to Oregon, particularly in the area east of the Cascade mountains. East Oregonians pride themselves in keeping their secrets about powder-filled mountains, winter steelhead runs, wildlife viewing, and now the opening of a special controlled winter “Beer Hunt”.
According to Yolanda Lennon, President of Eastern Oregon Visitors Association, “The first ‘Beer Hunt’ was offered in the fall of 2011. Because of the abundance of types, styles, and locations of the ‘Beer’ it became clear that the ability to secure a Beer Tag needed to be extended into the winter months.” Ms. Lennon concluded, “While it may appear that the ‘Beer’ are rather elusive creatures, the fact is that during the winter months it is becoming increasingly necessary to track down these hand-crafted species, and pair them with other Eastern Oregon culinary delights. Hunters will be rewarded when they discover that the environment for Beer hunting in Eastern Oregon includes many other great winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, wildlife viewing, and fishing.” Beer hunters can secure their ‘Beer Tag’ by simply inquiring while visiting any of the participating micro-breweries, or by downloading a tag at: http://www.visiteasternoregon.com/beertag/
The Eastern Oregon ‘Beer Tag’ can be found at any of the six hand-crafted breweries participating: Beer Valley located in Ontario; Barley Brown’s – Baker City; Mutiny – Joseph: Terminal Gravity - Enterprise; Mt. Emily Ale House - La Grande; and Prodigal Son in Pendleton. Once a ‘Beer Tag’ is procured at one of the participating breweries or by downloading from the EOVA website (eova.com), hunters (aka Beer Tasters) are invited to hunt at any of six Eastern Oregon micro-breweries. After tasting is completed , the brew master will stamp the ‘Beer Tag’ with the official Eastern Oregon stamp. Upon visiting at least four of the six hunting locations, the hunter (aka Taster) will be awarded a fabulous koozie for keeping his or her Eastern Oregon beer cool, in preparation for future hunts.
“Some places have ‘Ale Trails’. Other places have ‘Beer Passports’. In Eastern Oregon, we have a ‘Beer Tag’”, stated Ms. Lennon. If you have any questions, please give me a call or email. Alice Trindle Phone: 541-856-3356 Email: eova@eoni.com Website: eova.com
